Ubisoft has given green light for a new Splinter Cell game (from the main series), this reports the usually well informed Tom Henderson from VGC. It is unclear which studios are working on the project, but two people who are to be familiar with the plans have suggested that the development of the new game is headed by a studio outside of Montreal. The new Splinter Cell should be in an early stage of production. It would be a little chance that it is announced next year.
According to the (unconfirmed) source, the title should have gone in production to recover fans who were disappointed with the latest efforts to revive the franchise in the areas of Mobile and VR. Ubisoft did not want to comment on the report by VGC. The last game of the main series was Splinter Cell: Blacklist (2013). In Ghost Recon Breakpoint, Sam Fisher (main character of Splinter Cell) had already had a guest appearance.
In recent years, Ubisoft had suggested several times to reflect on a return, but the Splinter Cell series had to evolve until they could celebrate a comeback. When you develop a game, you have to make sure that it is sufficiently different from what you have previously made, said Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot a year ago.
